Brian Sumption

Funeral Director

Brian “Ed” Sumption graduated from Rosholt High School in 1987. After high school, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Northern State University and taught 5th grade in Willow Lake, SD, for four years.

In 1997, the family moved to Sturgis, SD, and Brian had a major career change. With the help of Kelly, Brian started working at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis in August of 1997. In 2000, at the urging of the funeral home, they had Brian start mortuary school. In August of 2002, he graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Mortuary Science from Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, CO. Brian Worked at Kinkade Funeral Chapel until July 2007. In July 2007, Brian started working at Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City, SD. He has been with Kirk’s for the last 16 years.

Ever since their days in high school, Kelly and Brian had always joked about working together as chiropractors while they picked rocks and pulled weeds for area Rosholt farmers. Unfortunately being chiropractors did not work out, and fate led them to being funeral directors.

On November 20, 2023, Brian started at Eggers Funeral Home and Furniture working with Kelly and Jill. It has taken awhile for their paths to line up, but the conversations that took place on those warm summer days have come to reality. It is great to be back home and to finish my career in Rosholt is a blessing.

Brian has four children: Tanner, Zach, Taite, and Makeda. They enjoy spending time on the golf course and are avid sports fans of the NFL, MLB, and NBA.

I look forward to serving the surrounding area in their time of need.
