Yvonne "Vonnie" Skoglund, 73, Claire City, SD, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 14, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Claire City with Pastor Harold Watrous officiating. Music was provided by organist Crystal Kemnitz and vocalists Bob Schultz and Allen Schram.
Burial was in the Norway Lutheran Cemetery, rural Claire City. Honorary pallbearers were all of her very special and loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Tim German, Eric Snaza, Dennis Iverson, Aaron Ceroll, Matt Hrncir, and Tim Gleason.
Visitation was Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt.
Yvonne was born August 27, 1938, in Sisseton, SD, to Bert and Dorothy (Law) German. She was baptized and confirmed at the Peever Lutheran Church in Peever, SD. She attended school through eighth grade at the Agency Country School. Vonnie then worked as a nanny and helped on the family farm.
On June 18, 1960, Vonnie married Donald Skoglund at the Peever Lutheran Church. They settled on a farm near Rosholt, SD, where nine of their ten children were born. They moved to rural Claire City where their last child was born and they lived and farmed. Vonnie was employed at the Tekakwitha Nursing Home, Roberts County Highway Department, cooked at the Sisseton School, and cleaned church. Donald passed away April 22, 1994. The last eleven years, she worked at the Greenleaf Assisted Living in Sisseton.
Vonnie was a member of First Lutheran Church and the ELCW. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, dancing, baking, cooking, and playing games and cards. She also loved spending time with her grandkids.
Survivors include nine children, Randy Skoglund of Watertown, SD, Renae (Ron) Skjonsberg of Viborg, SD, Rhonda (Jim) Passow of Milaca, MN, Roxanne (Ron) Bohnenstingl of Lidgerwood, ND, Rita (Scott) Ritzschke of Watertown, Robin (Steve) Eidem of Marietta, MN, Rae (Allan) Payne of Watertown, Rudy Skoglund of Claire City, SD, and Ramona (Tim) Driscoll of Grand Forks, ND; 26 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Bernice Marquette of Cokato, MN, Jeanette Snaza of Grenville, SD, and Charlotte Fryer of Milbank, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Vonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; son, Rollin; three brothers and one sister.
