Wayne Ellingson

Wayne Orin Ellingson, age 95, of New Effington, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 17, 2022. At the time of his death, he was a resident of Twin Town Villa, Breckenridge, MN.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt officiated by Rev. Nancy Quatier. Music will be provided by Wayne's great-granddaughter Olivia Bartnick.

Burial will be in the St. Peter's Cemetery, Sisseton.  Military honors will be provided by the Fort Sisseton VFW Post 3342 and the Otto Quande Renville American Legion Post 50.  Pallbearers will be Wayne's grandchildren – Dustin Bartnick, Michael Bartnick, Lindsey Kreuser, Brittney Rohwer, Natasha Brandenburger, and Zachary Brandenburger.

Visitation will be Friday, November 25, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and will continue Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt.

Wayne was born December 11, 1926, on a farm north of Victor, SD, to the late Albert and Inga (Eggen) Ellingson. He attended country school near Victor and as he got older worked for local farmers.  He completed his education at Morris, MN, an agricultural school at the time.  On March 28, 1945, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Army. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation (Japan) Medal before being honorably discharged November 26, 1946.

After returning from the military, he met and married Marjorie Schiltz of Hankinson, ND, on October 17, 1954. To this union three children were born: Sheree, Dale, and Karla.  Wayne and Marge lived in Ridgecrest, CA, for four years to work and save money to buy their farm in South Dakota.  Sheree and Dale were born in California.  In 1959, they returned to South Dakota to a farm southeast of New Effington in Hart Township.  Wayne and Marge celebrated their 50 ^th wedding anniversary in 2004 with many friends and family present.  After Marge's death in 2013, Wayne moved to Wahpeton, ND.  He lived independently until declining health and then moved to Twin Town Villa.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sheree (Neil) Bartnick of Lidgerwood, ND; son, Dale (Patty) Ellingson of Eden Prairie, MN; daughter, Karla (Nathan) Brandenburger of Hoover, AL; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley DeFea of Milbank, SD; brother, Warren Ellingson of Ridgecrest, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his parents, Albert and Inga; four brothers; and three sisters.
