Viola M. Ehlers, 92, Wheaton, MN, passed away Monday, October 7, 2013, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were Saturday, October 12, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Monson Township, MN, with Rev. Michael Breach officiating. Music was provided by organist Darlene Beyer.
Burial was in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Wheaton. Honorary pallbearers were all of her friends. Active pallbearers were Danny Ehlers, Stacy Ehlers, Jesse Ehlers, Jacob Ehlers, Matthew Lueker, and Martin Lueker.
Visitation was Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation continued Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Viola Mabel was born April 19, 1921, in Taylor Township, MN, to Henry and Grace (Billitt) Totzke. She attended rural school in Taylor Township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. After her schooling, Viola worked in the community as a housekeeper.
On September 23, 1942, Viola married Vernon Ehlers at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Taylor Township. To this union, three children were born, Gary, Sharon, and Darus. They lived and farmed in Monson Township. In the later years, they farmed in the summer and traveled to California in the winter. Vernon and Viola retired in 2000 and moved to Wheaton in 2007.
Viola was a member of the Lutheran Women Missionary League. From World War II until the present time, she enjoyed corresponding with distant relatives in Germany. Viola was an avid flower and vegetable gardener and enjoyed canning. She also loved making quilts and then donating them.
Survivors include her sons, Gary (Diane) Ehlers of Wheaton, and Darus (Stephanie) Ehlers of Wheaton; daughter, Sharon Lueker and her special friend Rudy Rodriguez of Wheaton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Marvin) Niesche of Fergus Falls, MN; and sister-in-law, Carol Totzke of Fergus Falls.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; three grandchildren, Brian Lueker, Doug Ehlers and John Ehlers; two sisters, Helen Fix and Ida Leesburg; and three brothers, Roy, Robert and Dale Totzke.
