Vincent H. Braun, 94, Sisseton, SD, formerly of New Effington, SD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Tekakwitha Living Center.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, from 4:00-6:00 pm at Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt with Rosary/Prayer service at 7:00 pm at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt.

Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at 10:30 at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt with Fr. Jerome Ranek officiating. Music will be provided by organist Lana Sand.

Burial will be at the St. Nicholas Cemetery rural Rosholt. Military honors will be provided by the Read-Veflin American Legion Post 180 of New Effington. Honorary pallbearers will be the Read-Veflin American Legion Post 180, Lien Township, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Active pallbearers will be Douglas "Eric" Braun, Matthew Herbranson, Lance Roeder, Anthony Braun, Austin Roeder, and Rodney Brandenburger.

Vincent Henry was born April 24, 1922, to Joseph and Elenora (Fehringer) Braun in White Rock Township, Roberts County, SD. He was the second oldest of 11 children. He was baptized, made his First Communion and was confirmed at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt. Vincent graduated from Rosholt High School in 1938 at the age of 16.

On October 22, 1945, Vincent entered the US Army. He began military services in Oklahoma and then in the state of Virginia. He served as a cook and was discharged on November 26, 1946. For his service, Vincent received the World War II Victory Medal. In 2011 he had the privilege of traveling to Washington, DC as part of the South Dakota Honor Flight to see the World War II Memorial and other historical sites.

Vincent married Marcella Mooney on October 20, 1948, in Hillsboro, ND, and settled on a farm near Rosholt, SD. In 1963 the family moved to a farm near New Effington, SD. In 2016, they celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Vincent and Marcella and their children catered hundreds of events over the years including weddings, anniversaries, graduations, 4-H, reunions and centennials. He was involved in many organizations such as Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served as a trustee and a reader. He served on the South Dakota State Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters for several decades and attended annual meetings across the country. Other organizations included the New Effington and Sisseton School Boards, the Read Veflin American Legion Post 180, the Lions, the Browns Valley Creamery Board and the New Effington Elevator Board. He ran for South Dakota State Representative in the mid to late 1970's. He loved to bowl and served as the bowling league bookkeeper for over 30 years and never used a calculator as he was very sharp with his math skills. He was also a corn seed dealer for Rob See Co, Funks and Golden Harvest for many years.

Vincent had his farm auction sale in 1998 and continued to live on the family farm until 2013. He will be remembered for his deep faith, his strong work ethic, his love for people and his captivating laugh. He worked hard as a farmer and this showed through his great strength and large hands.

Vincent is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Jeanette, Ambrose, Leander, Mervin, and Jerome.

He is survived by his wife, Marcella of Sisseton, SD; children, Barbara (Les) Herbranson of Fargo, ND, Anthony (Edith) of Lafayette, CO, Douglas (Susan) of Omro, WI, Paul (Mercidita) of San Diego, CA, Gerard of New Effington, SD, Janet (Jeff) Roeder of Milnor, ND, Francis of New Effington, SD, and Collette (John) Etzell of Shoreview, MN; sisters, Marlene Luick of Fairmount, ND, and Adela Gustafson of Rosholt, SD; brothers, Albert (Marceil) of Rosholt, SD, Gerald of Wahpeton, ND, and Raymond (Sharon) of Fergus Falls, MN; along with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorials may also be sent to the Country Tractor Run at New Effington who pays funds forward to Make-A-Wish.
