Vicki Lynne Crosby was born on October 22, 1969, in Ortonville, MN, to Richard and Andrea (Rakowski) Crosby. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. During high school, Vicki worked at the Orpheum Theatre in Ortonville until she graduated from the Ortonville High School in 1988. Later, she worked as a traveling medical record specialist for CM Information Specialists.

Vicki was united in marriage to Wade Athey on October 10, 1992, at the Tabor United Methodist Church in Big Stone City, SD. They settled on a farm outside of Graceville, MN, and spent years milking cattle, raising goats, and crop farming. Together they welcomed two children, Justin and Kaylee. Vicki was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, and work ethic. Vicki loved spending time riding motorcycles, fixing things out in the shop, caring for her flowers, and volunteering with 4-H for over 20 years alongside her children's involvement. She enjoyed vacationing in northern Minnesota and made many friends from the surrounding area who became like family. Most of all, Vicki enjoyed spending time and sharing laughs with her family and friends.
