Vernis Anderson

Vernis Gail Anderson, 86, of Wheaton, MN, formerly of Cambridge, MN, passed away on December 28, 2022, at the Traverse Care Center.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, May 11, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The service will be livestreamed on the Eggers Funeral Home Facebook page.

Vernis was born on July 29, 1936, to Vernon and Edythe (Holmberg) Stoeckman in Tracy, MN. Her family moved often during her childhood, and she graduated from Lamberton High School in 1953. After graduating from high school, she moved to Minneapolis and worked at Bell Telephone and then Minnegasco.

Vernis married Jim Anderson on April 7, 1956, during a snowstorm.  They lived in Minneapolis and Fridley (where her children Julie and Jamie were born) before moving to Cambridge in 1976.  In Cambridge, she got a job at the library working with one of her favorite things, books, and where she made some wonderful friends.

After retiring, Vernis and Jim traveled in their RV to most of the states, went on three trips to Alaska, and took a European River Cruise.

Vernis enjoyed reading, baking, and spending time with family, friends, and her fur babies, Molly and Brewster.

She was an active member of Cambridge Lutheran Church where she volunteered in many areas:  Loave and Fishes, funeral work group, communion committee, and Meals on Wheels. She also helped in the office.  Vernis enjoyed her time with her friends during Bible study and Circle.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jim; her parents; brothers, David and Dennis; brother-in-law, John; and sister-in-law, Kathy.

Vernis is survived by her daughter, Julie (Glenn) of Rosholt, SD; and son, Jamie (April) of Pocatello, ID; grandchildren, Megan and Samantha Keifer and Bodie and Colton Anderson; brother, Neal (Janette) of Denver, CO; sister-in-law, Karen of Olivia, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
