Thorvald Monroe Bredvik

Thorvald M. Bredvik, 82, New Effington, SD, went home to eternal life on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Sanford Health in Fargo.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 16, at 1:30 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington with Rev. Tryphine Olson Schruba officiating. Music will be provided by organist Deb Bredvik and vocalists Melanie Yost, Linda Loberg and Brent Gerber.

Burial will be at a later date in the New Effington Community Cemetery. Honorary urn bearers will be Allen Schafte, Steve Parkhurst, Ronald Nissen, Kirk Navratil, Noah Nissen, Eli Nissen and Clyde Broz. Active urn bearers will be Thorvald's grandchildren, Carl Lingen, Kipp Bredvik, Kay Bredvik, Kelly Kohoutek, Hayley Miller, and Tore Miller.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. The Eggers Funeral Home of Rosholt, SD, is in charge of the arrangements.

Thorvald Monroe Bredvik was born on December 12, 1932, to Arnold and Ruby (McLaird) Bredvik in Lien Township on the Bredvik homestead. He married Dorothy Olson on November 18, 1951, in Zion Lutheran Church in New Effington, SD.

Thorvald farmed all of his life in the New Effington area. He was active in the community throughout the years serving on various boards. Thorvald was a great father, grandfather, mentor, and had a very kind heart. He was always willing to give someone a hand or help when in need.

He enjoyed spending time in his retirement years riding his motorcycle, teaching his grandchildren to drive, making lefse and many pots of coffee for all the frequent visitors to the farm. He also enjoyed playing cards and sharing his "fixing" talents with all of his children. He was proud to show his antique tractors which he would drive at least once a year. His true legacy is the unending love and faithfulness given to his family and friends.

Thorvald is survived by his wife, Dorothy of 63 years; three children, Denise (Ken) Lingen, Lynn (Debbie) Bredvik, and Damaris Miller; six grandchildren, Carl (Steph) Lingen, Kipp Bredvik, Kay Bredvik, Kelly (Travis) Kohoutek, Hayley Miller, and Tore Miller; two great-grandchildren, Jase Kohoutek and Isabella Lingen; brother, Arnold Jr. (Rose) Bredvik; cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the New Effington Community Cemetery or the New Effington Community Center.
