Teresa Marie Bernard Schiltz, age 89, of Rosholt, SD, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Wheatcrest Hills Healthcare Center in Britton, SD.
Celebration of Life service will be at the Rosholt Community Center on Friday, June 30, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Sean Miller officiating. Urn bearers will be Michael Eggen, Alexander Lewis, Kyle Schiltz, and Joshua Schiltz. Honorary urn bearers will be all of Teresa's grandchildren.
Teresa Schiltz was born November 5, 1933, in Fairmount, ND, daughter of Adolph and Caroline (Neubauer) Bernard. She grew up on a farm and attended boarding school in Hankinson, ND. While in school, Teresa was a cheerleader and often held the lead role in school plays.
Gordon and Teresa met at a local barn dance and were married in 1951. After getting married, they farmed in New Effington until 1962 when the family settled on the Schiltz family farm north of Rosholt.
Teresa was a missionary for Spiritual Life Ministries of Minneapolis, MN, and traveled to 18 countries. Called "Mother Teresa" by many of the people she had an impact on, she had a heart for the poor and the poor in spirit, visiting many orphanages and donating whatever she could. Children, wounded soldiers, and the poor were always on her prayer list. She was also a speaker for the five state area of the Christian Women's Club, and ministered with hospice and the nursing home in Rosholt for many years with Bible classes and music. She left a legacy of spirituality and generosity.
Teresa is survived by children Pamela Eggen of Lake Elmo, MN, Janelle Lewis of Georgetown, TX, Mary Walter of Fairmount, ND, Brenda Foster of Rosholt, SD, Peggy Lillie of Forest Lake, MN, Greg Schiltz of Wahpeton, ND, Leslie Schiltz of Rosholt, SD, Beth Wills of Lancaster, OH, and Lisa Torvik of Horace, ND; sister Julia Klosterman of Mooreton, ND; sister-in-law Esther Bernard; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and friends.
Teresa was preceded in death by husband Gordon; daughter Adeline; son Andrew; great-granddaughter Evelyn; her parents; three brothers; and six sisters.
