Stella V. Hanson, 99, Veblen, SD, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at the Countryside Inn Assisted Living in Rosholt, SD.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 7, at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington with Pastor Nancy Quatier officiating. Music was provided by organists Debra Bredvik and Carolyn Sue Trout, vocalists Pam and Gary Anderson, and musician Keith Falken.
Burial was in the Palestine Lutheran Cemetery, rural Veblen. Honorary casket bearers were Stella's three generations of grandchildren. Active casket bearers were Robert Dempsey, Mark Hanson, LeAnn Hrncir, Gretchen Gardner, Beth Stiefel, and Jason Coleman.
Visitation was Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Visitation continued Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are preferred to the Countryside Inn or the Rosholt Ambulance Service.
Stella Viola was born March 19, 1912, on a farm near Havana, ND, to Ole and Freda (Thor) Johnson.
On October 15, 1932, Stella married Carl Theodore "Ted" Hanson at Sisseton, SD, and they made their home on a farm five miles north of Veblen.
Stella is survived by four daughters Marcelene Dempsey, Lois (Butch) Leen, Janice Hrncir, and Carolyn Sue (Ed) Trout; and three generations of grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ted; daughter Colleen; and sons Wayne and Odean.
