SSG Adam C. Houghtaling, 27, St. Louis Park, MN, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012.
There was a gathering and prayer service Saturday, August 25, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt, SD, followed by burial at 11:00 a.m. with full military honors at the Bethania Cemetery, Rosholt.
Adam Christopher Houghtaling, son of Curt and Heidi (Voss) Houghtaling was born on August 21, 1984. He spent his early years in Rosholt, SD. When Adam was five, he moved to Aberdeen, SD. He attended O. M. Tiffany Elementary School, Holgate Junior High and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 2003.
At 17, Adam enlisted in the South Dakota Army National Guard (2001). He deployed to Iraq with his "fasha" Curt in 2003. He returned from Iraq in 2005 and worked for the National Guard as a recruiter until he deployed for a 2nd tour in Kuwait in 2008. He returned in 2010 and pursued entrepreneurial endeavors.
Adam moved to Minneapolis in 2011 to be close to his family, who were the most important thing to him. Lucky for Adam he not only got to live close to his family, he also met the love of his life, Kelsey. During his time in Minnesota he enjoyed working for Lavender Magazine and Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company.
Adam passed away on August 19, 2012. He was 27 years old.
Adam is survived by his parents: Curt "Ol'Man" and Heidi "Ma" of Coon Rapids; two sisters: Melissa "Missy sissy" her girl Laura Andrews of Minneapolis and Jessica "Jessi sissy" her boy Dan Griffin of St. Paul; his girl Kelsey Anderson of St. Louis Park; neph-puppy Elliott "Schmoolsbools" of Minneapolis: Granny and Gramps Rodney and Ardyth Voss of Rosholt, SD and Grandma Jan Houghtaling of Watertown, SD; Uncs Rod "Roddie" Voss partner Mark "Auntiebugnuts" Floding, Aunties Jodi "Jo" Voss partner Anna "Annafofefi" Griesbach, Uncle Donnie Houghtaling, Aunt Charlene Schlepp, Aunt Carolyn Busta partner Daniel Busta and by cousins, other relatives, many many many many many (no seriously a lot) of friends and A Battery 1st Battalion 147th Field Artillery, Aberdeen, SD "Pride of the Dakotas".
Adam was preceded in death by his grandfather Clyfford Houghtaling, Uncle Bradley Schlepp, great-grandparents Elsie and William Voss, Wallace and Hattie Hardie and Onie Hardie, pet-siblings Cisco and Mr. Tibbs.
