Shirley Bostrom

Shirley R. Bostrom, 83, New Effington, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Eventide Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo, ND.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington with Rev. Pat Schubert officiating. Music will be provided by Melanie Yost.

Burial will be in the Garden of Rest Cemetery, New Effington. Honorary urn bearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. 

Shirley Rae was born October 17, 1942, to Gordon and Dorothy (Miller) Leverson in Breckenridge, MN. She grew up and attended two rural country schools and graduated from New Effington High School in 1960, for which she was the homecoming queen.

On October 30, 1960, Shirley married Eugene Bostrom at the Nidaros Lutheran Church in Hammer, SD. After their marriage, Shirley became a dedicated farm wife in rural New Effington, where she worked alongside her husband to help run the family farm while also raising their five children. In February of 1984, Shirley opened her own business, Shirley’s Daisy Patch, in New Effington where she sold crafts, fresh flowers and arrangements for weddings and funerals. She also sold bridal gowns and tuxedo rentals. Shirley and Gene moved from the farm to New Effington in 1995. After retiring in 2000, Shirley worked briefly for Sammy at Sisseton Flower Shop.

Shirley was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and doing crafts, along with making 100’s of dozens of cookies for the community. Above all, she loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids.

Survivors include her children, Scott (Julie) Bostrom of New Effington, Lori Schiltz of Grand Forks, ND, Steve (Cindy) Bostrom of New Effington, Kristi (Dave) Schneidermann of Ulen, MN, and Randy (Christy) Bostrom of New Effington; grandchildren, Kallyn (Travis) Peterson, Kaden Bostrom and Karah Bostrom, DeAnn and Katie Schiltz, Sarah (Jordan) Hamman, Megan (Brian) Thomas and Carl Bostrom, Zach (Christine) Schneidermann and Allie (Kyle) Lisburg, and Brady Bostrom and Bryce (Katie Thompson) Bostrom; 7 great-grandchildren, Avery, Emily, Madison, Amelia, Blakleigh, Oliver and Saylor; and brother and sisters, Tom (Bonnie) Leverson of New Effington, Konnie (Allan) Schafte of Moorhead, MN, and Jeanne (Doug) Bublitz of Altamont, SD.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; her parents, Gordon and Dorothy Leverson; brother-in-law, Danny Keller; and parents-in-law, Earl and Junette Bostrom.
