Sherry L. Gisi, 69, Beardsley, MN, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2021, at the Milbank Area Hospital in Milbank, SD.
Memorial Services will be Friday, February 5, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
The Memorial Service will be livestreamed on the Eggers Funeral Home Facebook page.
Burial will be in the Sisseton City Cemetery, Sisseton, SD.
Sherry Lee was born on September 19, 1951, in St. Paul, MN, to Donald and Darlene (Sjerven) Nigg. She was baptized in St. Paul. Sherry attended school in Browns Valley, graduating in 1969.
Sherry married David Gisi in May 1970. In 1975 her son David was born in Peoria, IL. Sherry earned her associate's degree in Early Childhood Development from Presentation College in Aberdeen, SD, in 1978. She graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD, with her bachelor's degree in Social Work in 1982.
After finishing school, Sherry lived and worked in Hot Springs, SD, where she raised her son and worked for the State of South Dakota and the Rainbow House group home. She also attended several Special Olympics.
In 1990 Sherry moved back to Browns Valley where she worked in social work for the State of Minnesota in Wheaton, MN, and the Rainbow Daycare in Sisseton. She moved to Beardsley in 2010 and retired in 2013.
Sherry loved kids and committed her life to working with children. She adored animals, especially horses, and had a passion for saving unwanted animals. She also enjoyed going to craft fairs and painting.
Survivors include her son, David Michael (Mahpiyatowin) Johnson of Beardsley; granddaughters, Alexis Johnson (Ronald Taylor) of Beardsley and Simone Johnson of Beardsley; great grandsons, David Johnson III and Adrian Taylor of Beardsley; brother, David (Mary) Nigg of Browns Valley; sister, Jean (Mark) Karst of Browns Valley; nieces and nephews, Tiffany (Curt) Myrum of Browns Valley, Eric (Erika) Nigg of Los Angeles, Francis Karst of Browns Valley, and Megan (Adam) Hilpert of Browns Valley.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Darlene Nigg; and the father of her son, David Michael Johnson, Sr.
