Ruth Elizabeth Meyer was born May 20, 1928, to Leonard and Theresa (Horneber) Rattelmuller, in Harmon Township, Roberts County, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Harmon Township. She attended Windom Country Grade School and graduated from the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN.
On September 3, 1950, Ruth married Wilfred "Butch" Meyer. They lived and farmed in Hart and Harmon Townships, where they raised their family of four children: a son, Robert, and three daughters, Julie, Gail, and Carol. In 1988 they retired and moved to Sisseton. Butch passed away January 23, 2017.
Ruth was a fulltime homemaker. She loved her garden and her flowers. She was a good seamstress, taught her daughters to sew, and with them enjoyed crafting. She shared her musical talents on the piano and organ with her church and community, also spending moments of personal enjoyment on the keyboard at home. Ruth played for many (too numerous to count) weddings, funerals, church services and community events throughout her life, only retiring from her musical career a few years ago.
Ruth was very proud of her son for continuing the farming operation on the home farm.
Survivors include her four children, son Robert (Candy) Meyer of Sisseton; daughters, Julie (Steve) Weaver of Sioux Falls, SD, Gail (Doug) Tobkin of Kindred, ND, and Carol (Randy) Steenholdt of Nisswa, MN; eleven grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, George (LaVonne) Rattelmuller; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband Butch of 66 years; her parents, Leonard and Theresa Rattelmuller; three siblings, Leonard Rattelmuller Jr., Reuben Rattelmuller, and Margaret Rattelmuller; and two sisters-in-law, Eleanore and Thelma.
Memorials may be directed to the Windom Lutheran Cemetery and the Sisseton Cemetery.
