Russell Veflin

Russell K. Veflin, age 76, Sisseton, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, May 28, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton with Rev. Josh Knudsen officiating.  Music will be provided by organist Ollie Yost and vocalist Kate Wismer.

Burial will be in the Scandia Cemetery, rural Sisseton.  Honorary pallbearers will be Taylor Veflin, Olivia Veflin, Liza Veflin, Grace German and all of his nieces and nephews.  Active pallbearers will be Tim Veflin, Aaron Veflin, Logan Schaunaman, Carter Schaunaman, Caleb Veflin, and Jake Schaunaman.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning one hour prior to service time.

Russell Kay Veflin was born February 8, 1949, to Knute and Violet (Martenson) Veflin in Sisseton.  He attended school in Sisseton, graduating from Sisseton High School in 1967.  After finishing school, he continued farming with his dad.

On June 23, 1973, Russell married Linda Nissen in New Effington.  Together they raised three children: Stephanie, Tim, and Aaron.  Russell continued farming with his brothers and son Tim until he passed.

Russell was a member of the Grace Lutheran church council and served on the Hart Township board.

Russell enjoyed fishing with family and taking his dogs for Ranger rides.  He was also an avid bowler for many years.  He especially loved watching his grandchildren in all of their various sports and activities.

Survivors include his wife of almost 53 years, Linda of Sisseton; three children, Stephanie (Jake) Schaunaman of Sisseton, Tim (Robin) Veflin of Sisseton, and Aaron Veflin (Kate Wismer) of Britton; seven grandchildren, Logan (Elise), Carter, Taylor, Caleb, Olivia, Liza, and Grace (Trey);  great-granddaughter, Evie; and brothers, Rodney (Betty) Veflin, Doug (Addy) Veflin, and Alan (Jodi) Veflin all of Sisseton.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arlen and Jerry; sister-in-law, Alice Haus; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Nissen and Jeff Kluge.
