Ruby Bartnick, 88, Claire City, SD, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at St. Catherine's Living Center in Wahpeton, ND.
Funeral services were Monday, August 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City with Rev. Douglas Wanderer officiating. Music was provided by organist Liz Mumm. Following the service, lunch was served in the Claire City Community Center.
Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Claire City. Honorary pallbearers were all of Ruby's great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were Derek Bartnick, Bryan Bartnick, Kelly Bartnick, Dale Bartnick, Chris Hans and Kevin Ceroll.
Visitation was Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD. Visitation continued Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ruby Ione was born July 7, 1926, to Oscar and Elsie (Cooke) Ostby in Wheaton, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Brandvold Lutheran Church, Victor, SD. Ruby attended rural school in Lien Township of Roberts County until the eighth grade. She worked side by side her "pa" growing up.
On October 14, 1947, Ruby married Orville Bartnick in Brandvold Church, Victor. They lived on the farm in Minnesota Township until moving to Claire City in 1979. A very hard worker, Ruby cooked at Chef's Café, Sisseton Sales Barn, Skogen's Café and the Farmer's Inn in Claire City. Ruby moved to Wahpeton, ND, in September 2008.
Ruby was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Claire City, and was active in the LWML. She loved gardening, her flowers, and cooking. She especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her son, Paul (Diane) Bartnick of New Effington, SD; daughter-in-law, Linda Bartnick of Wahpeton; grandchildren, Kimberly (Kevin) Ceroll, Kelly Bartnick, Bryan Bartnick, Michelle (Chris) Hans, and Derek (Amanda) Bartnick; great-grandchildren, Kayley and Kelsey Ceroll, Brady and Katie Bartnick, Rylee Hans, and Leigh, Olivia and Elsa Bartnick; sister, Ethel Swanson of Rapid City, SD; sisters-in-law, Lois Ostby of New Effington, and Grace Anderson of Watertown, SD; and brother-in-law, Allen Olson of Fridley, MN.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Orville (October 1988); son, James (January 2014); two sisters, Loretta and Olive; a brother, Glen; and a great-grandson, Drake (December 2013).
