Rosella Herding

Rosella M. Herding, 80, Rosholt, SD, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at the Rosholt Care Center, Rosholt.         Funeral services were Tuesday, February 2, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Rosholt with Father Dennis Deis, O.M.I., officiating.  Music was provided by organist Lana Sand and vocalists Lana and Paul Sand.         Burial will be at a later date in the St. Nicholas Cemetery, rural Rosholt.  Pallbearers were Dean Brandenburger, Jim Schmit, David Bates, Dan Herding, Bernard Bates, and Alan Sand.         Visitation was Monday, February 1, from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt.  There was a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church.  Visitation continued Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.  The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt was in charge of the arrangements.         Rosella was born August 22, 1929, in LaMars Township, Richland County, ND, to John and Alvina (Differding) Schmit.  At age two, she moved with her family to the farm south of Wahpeton in Center Township.  She attended Center Township #4 school.         On November 8, 1950, Rosella married Leo J. Herding at St. John's Catholic Church in Wahpeton, ND.  Following their marriage, Leo and Rosella farmed together five miles north of Rosholt.      After having suffered a stroke in January 2005, Rosella spent a couple of months at the Tekakwitha Nursing Center in Sisseton.  After room became available, she moved to the Rosholt Care Center.  Leo passed away October 29, 2009.         Rosella was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Ladies Aid.  She enjoyed gardening, canning and freezing the fruits of her labor.  She also loved baking, cooking, and making pickled Northern for the guys.         Survivors include two children, Robert (Susan) Herding of Hankinson, ND, and Kenneth Herding of Rosholt; a daughter-in-law, Denise Herding of Wahpeton; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Rich) Truesdell of Wahpeton, Melissa (Stuart) Schumacher of Wahpeton, Jeremiah Herding of Fairmount, ND, Jessica (Jeremy) Seelye of Fairmount, and Jonathan Herding of Hankinson; three great-grandchildren, Shea Truesdell and Jacob and Jaidyn Seelye; a sister, Marcella Bates of Detroit Lakes; and a brother, Raymond Schmit of Wahpeton.         Rosella was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; son, Vincent; brother, Bernard and his wife Loretta; sister, Veronica; parents, John and Alvina; and brother-in-law, Bernard Bates.
