Ronald E. Spitzer, 71, Roanoke, TX, passed away January 12, 2014, from complications following surgery in Houston, TX.
Funeral services were on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. at the Claire City Community Center in Claire City, SD, with Pastor Nancy Quatier officiating. Music was provided by vocalists Gary and Pam Anderson and Harlan and Bonnie Anderson.
Burial was in the Claire City Cemetery. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the Community Center.
Ronald Eugene Spitzer was born on September 12, 1942, in Kenosha, WI, to Raymond and Helen (Modory) Spitzer. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in Kenosha in 1960. In 1966, he received his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin. Ron served in the Army Reserve from 1967 to 1972 as a USA Medic.
In 1968, Ron began working for Roadway Express in Milwaukee, WI. He transferred to Minneapolis/St. Paul as a Terminal Manager when Roadway Packaging opened up their operation in the late '70s. He continued working in operations for a number of trucking companies for the next 40 plus years, until he retired in 2009.
In 1995, Ron married Bonnie Brandell in Sisseton, SD. They lived in New Brighton, MN, until 2011, when they relocated to Roanoke, TX, where Bonnie transferred with her employer.
Ron was a true Green Bay Packer fan. He also enjoyed baseball and followed the Minnesota Twins and recently the Texas Rangers.
Ron is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Roanoke, TX; son, Todd Spitzer of Santa Fe, NM; brother, Ray Spitzer and wife Sue of Pasadena, MD; stepdaughters, Amanda Licht of Greensboro, NC, and Bethany Licht of Moundsview, MN; sisters-in-law, Doris Kemnitz of Sisseton and Karen Brandell of Rosholt; several nieces and nephews, and a very special aunt, Ruth Hoefer of Tucson, AZ.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lori; mother-in-law, Frances Brandell; and brothers-in-law, Jack Brandell and Milton Kemnitz .
Ron also left behind his good buddy, Bodhi, who has since passed away.
