Roger K. Stavig, 81, Rosholt, SD, died September 9, 2011, at the Rosholt Care Center, Rosholt.
Funeral services were Thursday, September 15, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt with Rev. Nancy Quatier officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand.
Burial was in the Bethania Cemetery, Rosholt. Military honors were provided by the Read Veflin American Legion Post 180 of New Effington. Pallbearers were Stan Cornelius, Myles Peterson, Dan Foltz, Boyce Kempton and Pete Erdahl.
Visitation was Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt.
Roger Kedrick Stavig was born August 21, 1930, to Edwin and Lydia (Rusten) Stavig in Wheaton, MN. He attended Rosholt schools and graduated from high school in 1948. He continued his education at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, graduating in 1952. After college, Roger was inducted into the U.S. Army on August 20, 1952. He served during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged August 19, 1954, receiving the National Defense Service Medal.
On June 17, 1956, Roger married Patricia Hjalmer at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt. Roger was employed by the Standard Oil Company in Downers Grove, IL, as a corporate tax accountant, retiring in 1991. Roger and Pat moved back to Rosholt in 1995.
Roger was a member of Bethania Lutheran Church and the Leo American Legion Post 48 of Rosholt.
Roger enjoyed playing Beat the Prognosticators in the Watertown Public Opinion, conversations with past colleagues and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved animals and was an active participant in the stock market and farming.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Rosholt; five children, Jon (Terri) Stavig of Cordova, AK, Sonja (Bill) Ozzard of Princeton, British Columbia, Canada, Rolf (Mary) Stavig of Wheaton, IL, Mark (Amanda) Stavig of Albuquerque, NM, and Anna Stavig Braley of Rosholt; ten grandchildren, Elsa Stavig, Leif Stavig, Aubrie Powell, Ashley Stavig, Allyson Stavig, Haley Stavig, Evan Stavig, Erik Braley, Linnea Braley and Larson Braley. He is also survived by nieces and cousins.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Alf and Charles and one sister, Sylva.
