Roger Hofland

Roger A. Hofland, 85, Claire City, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 25, at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Claire City with Rev. Karie Geyer officiating. Music will be provided by Crystal Kemnitz.

Burial will be in the Claire City Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Aaron Kemnitz, William Koeppe, Allen Schrader, Kendrick Hofland, Wayne Stach, and Lloyd Koranda. Military honors will be provided by the Read Veflin American Legion Post 180 of New Effington.

Visitation will be Friday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Roger Allen Hofland was born March 6, 1937, to Nels and Bertha (Skarnagel) Hofland in Veblen, SD. He attended school at McKinnley #1 country school and then graduated from Veblen High School. After finishing school, Roger worked on road construction in South Dakota and North Dakota. On August 11, 1960, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged August 10, 1962, he started farming in the Veblen and Claire City area.

On December 23, 1960, Roger married Patricia Monson. They had four children: Wade, Robert, Lance, Leah, and stepson Dan Monson of Claire City.

Roger married Mary Tenold on March 1, 2003. They lived on a farm in the Claire City area and later made their home in Claire City. Roger enjoyed his morning coffee at Farmer's Inn Café in Claire City.

Roger is survived by his wife, Mary; three sons, Wade Hofland of Sisseton, Robert Hofland of Sisseton, and Lance Hofland of Fairmount, ND; six grandchildren, Maria, Diamond, Kelsey Mae, Megan, Kendra, and Kendrick; stepchildren, Richard (Susie) Tenold of Wesley Chapel, FL, and Rochel (Matt) Schettl of Pine Island, MN; and step granddaughters, Samantha and Halie Schettl.

Roger was preceded in death by his daughter, Leah Williams; a grandson, Josh Hofland; and his parents.
