Robert "Bob" D. Mayou, 76, Rosholt, SD, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at the Rosholt Care Center.
Funeral services were Monday, October 15, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt with Father Joseph Hitpas, OMI, officiating. Music was provided by organist and vocalist Lana Sand.
Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery, Rosholt.  Honorary pallbearers were Alfred Braun, David Braun, Ron Anderson and Dwight Wickander.  Active pallbearers were Dan Foltz, Ray Foltz, Rick Foltz, Scott Mayou, Dan Zach, and Jack Brandenburger.
Visitation was Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. There was a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church.
Robert Dale Mayou was born March 9, 1936, in Le Mars, IA, to Edward "Eddy" and Nellie (Hill) Mayou. He attended rural school in the Rosholt area. After finishing school, Robert farmed with his father. He also worked at Johnson's Furniture in Rosholt. Robert built and operated the Purple Palace from 1963 to 1968. In 1972, Robert started his own construction company, Robert Mayou and Son Construction. He designed, built and remodeled many homes in the area. He retired in 1996. Robert was also the caretaker for the apartments in Rosholt for many years.
Robert was very active in the Rosholt community. He was a charter member of the Rosholt Improvement Association and served on the Commercial Club. He designed and built the Proud and Alive sign at the southeast corner of town and also designed, built and donated the Centennial Park sign. He served as co-chair of the Appreciation Supper for many years, volunteered his carpentry skills during the construction of the Rosholt Community Center, and worked at the Volunteer Firemen's Turkey Nights. Robert also used his woodworking talents by designing and building wooden backdrops at St. John's Catholic Church. Robert was truly an artist. Most recently, Robert was named the 2012 Rosholt Volunteer of the Year.
Robert loved gardening, quilting, building clocks, crocheting, cooking, and vacationing in Arizona. He also enjoyed spending time with his cat, Pookie.
Survivors include his children, Tamara (Karl) Kahlan of Phoenix, AZ, Lisa (Scott) Novak of Harris, MN, and Greg Mayou of New Effington, SD; grandson, Anthony Novak of Harris; sisters, June (Gordon) Eutsler of Lathrop, CA, Lavonne (Norman) Alme of Milnor, ND, and Joyce (Allan) Thurston of Minot, ND; brothers, Delbert (Sharon) Mayou of Rosholt, and Donnie (Gail) Mayou of Kent, WA.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Nellie Mayou; grandson, Daniel Scherer; brother, Francis Mayou; and sisters, Lois Stach, Alice Riggs, and Violet Barina.
