Robert George Bergstrom was born on January 5, 1925, to Edgar and Florence (Sloan) Bergstrom in Wheaton, MN. He grew up on a farm south of Rosholt, one of eight children. He attended local elementary country schools (Crawford and Harmon) and graduated from Rosholt High School.
He farmed briefly with his father prior to joining the U.S. Army in 1950, seeing active duty in Korea and earning the rank of sergeant. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Campaign Star and the United Nations Service Medal. After his discharge in 1952, Bob began a long career with Ireland's Lumber Yard in which he became manager of the Rosholt store, then becoming regional manager for several lumber yards in the Tri-State area. During this time he earned several national sales awards from Circle Steel Corp for grain bin sales prior to retiring in 1984.
Bob married Sylvia Fischer in June of 1955, his lovely bride of 57 years. To this union, two children were born, Daniel Robert and Michelle Renee.
Bob's family was his top priority. He enjoyed attending his children's sporting events, was an avid gardener and card player, and spent his retirement years hunting, fishing, and cheering for the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He also enjoyed having coffee with the boys at the C-Store. Once his grandchildren were born, Bob became an amazing Grandpa whose love and support will not be forgotten. Bob was a member of Bethania Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and Masons.
Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Sylvia; children, Dan and wife Liz Bergstrom of Sioux Falls, SD; Michelle and husband Kevin Anderson of Verona, WI; and five grandchildren, Katelin, Aubrey, and Brett Bergstrom and Hannah and Meghan Anderson. He is also survived by a brother, Eugene and wife Renee Bergstrom of Elgin, MN; three sisters, Marcy Johnson of Rosholt, Diane and husband Gary Halse of Bloomington, IL; and Bonnie and husband Sid Storm of St. Cloud, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Roger, Wayne, and Glendon, and his parents.
