Ray Spindler, 87, Rosholt, SD, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014, at the Rosholt Care Center.
Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, March 4, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley, MN, with Father David Breu officiating. Musicians were Todd Johnson, Jill Spindler and Mindy Timm.
Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Browns Valley, MN. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Patrick and Pamela Emery, Ruth Bartz, Roger Roeder, Deb Voss, Carla Sheldon, Gloria Bartz, Jeanette Pistorius, Gay and Phyllis Johnson, Gary and Marilyn Timm, Diane Odland, Natalie Stadtler, Peggy Boseth and Lori Mollberg. Active pallbearers were Gene Bartz, Jon Bartz, Mark Pistorius, Aaron Pistorius, Brent Sheldon, Lundee Stadtler, Joel Odland and Lynn Stadtler.
Visitation was Monday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt with Father Tony Dummer, OMI, officiating. Visitation continued Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church in Beardsley.
Raymond Clifford was born at home in Folsom Township, Traverse County, MN, on October 21, 1926, to Albert and Dena (Lubbers) Spindler. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley. He attended country school in Folsom Township through the eighth grade and Browns Valley High School. During his junior year, Ray left school to help with the farming.
On September 25, 1950, Ray married Helen Ziemer at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley. Ray continued farming and raising cattle, pigs, and sheep. In 1957, they moved to a farm northwest of Browns Valley and continued to farm, milk cows and raise pigs. On May 4, 2009, Ray and Helen moved to Rosholt. Ray made his home in the Rosholt Care Center on December 19, 2013.
Ray was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Anthony's Catholic Church, where he served as a trustee and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. After moving to Rosholt, he joined St. John's Catholic Church. He also served as Bryant Township Supervisor from 1980 to 2009.
Ray enjoyed attending sporting events and all of his children's and grandchildren's activities. He will always be remembered for making people laugh and have fun. He was "the life of the party!"
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Rosholt; three children, Danny (Joanie) Spindler of Orlando, FL, Bruce (Jill) Spindler of Webster, SD, and Rosanne Sand (friend Greg Mayou) of Rosholt; eight grandchildren, Angela Harlin, Brian Spindler, Mindy Timm, Ashley Zenk, Blake Spindler, Nicole Brandell, Connor Spindler, and Devin Spindler; nine great-grandchildren, Tyler, Summer, Carson, Madi, Jake, Cooper, Nick, Aiden, and Olivia; two sisters, Helen Homan of Graceville, MN, and Ethel (Jerry) Silbaugh of Rogers, MN; brother, Harold Spindler of Browns Valley; and two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Spindler of Alexandria, MN, and Katherine Spindler of Osakis, MN.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sisters; and brothers, Gerhard "Bud" and Bill.
