Paul Arneson, native son of Roberts County, South Dakota, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Medicalodge Care Center in Butler, Missouri.
A memorial service was held Saturday, August 17, at 11:00 a.m. at Trondhjem Lutheran Church, rural Rosholt, SD.
Paul Eugene Arneson was born on October 31, 1942, in Wheaton, MN, to Joe and Alice Arneson. He spent his childhood on the family farm. He attended East Harmon country school for the first eight years of his education. He attended high school in Rosholt, graduating Valedictorian in 1960. After graduating summa cum laude from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, Paul attended Harvard University and graduated cum laude with a doctorate in law in 1967.
He was recruited by a prestigious law firm in New York City, and, after four years, moved to Washington, DC, where he became a partner in a corporate law firm. He worked in DC for over thirty years, representing many corporations. He was a well-liked and respected advocate for his clients in the national political
Paul and his wife, Nancy, settled in Kansas City, Missouri, and lived there several years. Paul was semi-retired, working occasionally as a mediator.
Paul never defined himself only as an attorney, but rather, as a loving husband, brother, nephew, cousin, stepfather, grandfather and loyal friend. The people in his life were his most precious assets and his greatest joy.
Paul was a musician, photographer, inventor, and writer and was constantly learning.
Paul is survived by his wife, Nancy; his brother, Joel; his aunts, Martha Sanden, Pearl Krause and Pauline Cole; his Petrich and Arneson cousins; his stepdaughters, Erin and Whitney; and his granddaughter, Emma.
