Patricia "Pat" Stavig

Patricia (Hjalmer) Stavig, age 83, Albuquerque, New Mexico, left this earthly life Saturday, July 15, 2017, at the UNM Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 28, at 10:30 am at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt, SD, with Pastor Nancy Quatier officiating. Music will be provided by organist Lana Sand.

Burial will be in the Bethania Cemetery, Rosholt. Pallbearers will be David Erickson, Jon Stavig, Rolf Stavig, Mark Stavig, Leif Stavig, Erik Braley, Evan Stavig and Larson Braley. The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt is in charge of the arrangements.

Patricia was born near White Rock, SD, on April 25, 1934, to Fred and Hildur (Bergstrom) Hjalmer. She attended Moreland School through eighth grade and graduated from Rosholt High School in 1951. She graduated from South Dakota State University with a major in Home Economics Education in 1955. Patricia taught for one year at Wilmot High School in Wilmot, SD.

Patricia married Roger K. Stavig on June 17, 1956, in Rosholt at Bethania Lutheran Church. During their marriage they lived in Jamestown, ND, Fargo ND, Brooklyn Park, MN, and eventually spent 29 years in Downers Grove, IL. A few years after Roger's retirement, they returned to their hometown of Rosholt, SD, in 1995. Roger passed away September 9, 2011. In 2014, Patricia moved to Albuquerque, NM, to live near her son Mark and his family.

Family was everything to Patricia; she was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was also devoted to her faith and was actively involved in church activities everywhere she worshiped. Patricia loved reading, needlework, quilting and following politics. Her intellect, patience, resolve and devotion will serve as an inspiration to her family for generations.

Patricia is survived by her five children, Jon (Terri) Stavig of Cordova, Alaska, Sonja (Bill) Ozzard of Princeton, British Columbia, Rolf (Mary) Stavig of Wheaton, Illinois, Mark (Amanda) Stavig of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Anna Braley of Rosholt; ten grandchildren, Elsa Stavig, Leif Stavig, Aubrie Powell, Ashley Stavig, Allyson Stavig, Haley Stavig, Evan Stavig, Erik Braley, Linnea Braley, and Larson Braley; and one great-grandson, Brady Powell. She is also survived by a sister, Dottie MacFarland; and two brothers, Wesley and John.

Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Dennis and Glenn Hjalmer; and a sister, Dolores Erickson.
