Patricia Athey

Patricia Withrow Athey unexpectedly passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Visitation will be held on Sunday June 28, 2026 at Holden Lutheran Church in Beardsley, MN from 5:00-7:00 pm, with a prayer service and time for sharing at 7:00 pm.

Visitation continues at Holden Lutheran Church on Monday June 29, 2026 at 9:30 am, followed by funeral services at 10:30 am with burial to follow at the Clinton Cemetery in Clinton, MN.

Patricia Lynn Withrow Athey was born on February 12, 1963 to Wallace and Darlene (Allison) Withrow. She grew up in Alexandria, MN, graduating early from Jefferson Senior High School in December 1980, Class of 1981. Her daughter, Tina Midtling, was born in Alexandria on August 23, 1981. Patty later attended Alexandria Technical College, graduating in 1993 with degrees in Graphic Design and Supervisory Management.

It was at Alex Tech where Patty met the love of her life, Daniel Athey. They moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1993, where Patty worked as a Graphic Designer for Mitographers and Daniel worked for Gateway Computers. They were married on May 14, 1994 at Holden Lutheran Church. Their first son, Matthew LeRoy Athey, was born in Sioux Falls, SD on May 12, 1996. They moved to Graceville, MN in August 1996 and welcomed their second son, Andrew Wilber Athey, on February 24, 1998. In September 1998, they purchased their first home in Morris, MN where Daniel worked for Stevens Community Medical Center and Patty became a full-time domestic engineer, in addition to subcontracting graphic arts and quilting projects.

In 2011, Patty and Daniel's lives entered a new chapter with fostering, and eventually adopting, a niece and two nephews, Jacob, Genevieve and James Buhl. After Daniel's mother, Deloris, passed away, they moved to the Athey family farm in August 2023.

Patty was blessed with many talents including photography, knitting, fishing, crocheting, crafts, cooking, baking, and best known for her beautiful quilting. She was an avid reader, a Sunday School teacher and a music lover. She could always brighten up anybody's day, and she was a master at delivering magnificent hugs.

Patty is survived by her husband of 32 years, Daniel Athey; her children Tina (Jason) Midtling, Matthew (Samantha) Athey, Andrew Athey, Jacob Buhl, Genevieve Buhl, James Buhl; her grandchildren, Chayce Midtling and Alexis Midtling; her siblings Janet (Henry “Andy”) Winther, Nancy (Leslie) Cline, Joyce (Steve Palmer) Withrow; her in-laws Kathy (Mrs. John) Athey, David Athey, Yvonne Sigler, Laura “Punky” (Dan) Hagelin, Benjamin Athey, Elizabeth (Bill) Athey Combellick, Loretta (Tim) Kosbab, Jesse (Sonia) Athey; her step-father, John Walsh; her many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles together with other extended family members and friends.

Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace Withrow and Darlene Withrow Walsh; her father and mother-in-law Wilber and Deloris (Anderson) Athey; her brothers-in-law John Athey, Joseph Athey; and many other extended family members.
