Orville L. Ingemunson, 91, Browns Valley, MN, passed away Friday, June 26, 2015, at Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD.
Funeral services were Monday, June 29, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Browns Valley with Rev. Paul Warnier officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church. Music was provided by organist Ginny Westbrock, vocalist Dennis Dobbs, and guitarist grandson Cody Hansen.
Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery, Browns Valley. Military honors were provided by the William Krensing American Legion Post 58 of Browns Valley and the Fort Sisseton VFW Post 3342. Honorary urn bearers were Orville's Browns Valley Health Center friends. Active urn bearers were Orville's grandchildren.
The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD, was in charge of the arrangements.
Orville LeVerne Ingemunson was born March 22, 1924, to Knute and Matilda (Shurson) Ingemunson in Sisseton, SD. He attended country school through the eighth grade then left school to help his father farm.
On April 26, 1944, Orville enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He fought in the Battle of Pelelieu, Battle of Leyte Gulf, Surigao Strait, Luzon Campaigns, Battle of Okinawa, and finished the war in Tokyo Bay on the USS Mississippi where he witnessed the surrender of the Japanese. Orville was honorably discharged January 22, 1946. For his service, Orville earned the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal with four stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two stars.
After the war, Orville returned home and married his longtime sweetheart LaRayne Siewerdsen. He was employed as a milk truck driver for the Browns Valley Creamery and as a bartender for the American Legion. He later worked at Midwest Breeders and was a US Postal Service rural letter carrier. Orville also owned and operated Orv's TV Repair. He retired in 1990.
Orville was a lifetime member of the William Krensing American Legion in Browns Valley and the VFW Post 3342 in Sisseton. Orville's hobbies included bowling, playing cards, fishing and hunting with friends. With the GI Bill, Orville got his pilot's license and was very proud of his flying. Orville and LaRayne enjoyed taking many trips in their camper, especially to California to visit family. He especially loved spending time with family and teasing his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, LaRayne of Browns Valley; children, Gary Ingemunson and Joanie Haukos of Simi Valley, CA, Greg (Sally) Ingemunson of Blackhawk, SD, Kevin (Sharon) Ingemunson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kim (Mike) Hansen of Browns Valley; grandchildren, Tina, Angela, Eric, Misty, Penie, Trixie, Chris, Mitch and Cody; 17 ½ great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Orville was preceded in death by his siblings, Bernice, Melvin, Esther, Erma, Vernon, Gordon, and Helen; and daughters-in-law, Dixie and Dianne.
