Orell Yost

Orell S. Yost, age 78, Browns Valley, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the Tekakwitha Living Center in Sisseton.

Visitation will be Friday, November 29, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt.

Burial will be at a later date in the Windom Cemetery, Harmon Township, SD.  Military honors will be provided by the William Krensing American Legion Post 58 of Browns Valley.

Orell Sidney Yost was born August 29, 1946, to Otto and Caroline (Pistorius) Yost in Graceville, MN.  He attended school in Browns Valley, graduating from Browns Valley High School in 1964.  He attended Willmar Area Vo-Tech for two years.

On September 26, 1970, Orell married Kathleen Serocki at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley.  They lived, farmed, and milked cows on the family farm in Harmon Township, Roberts County, SD.  For 13 years, Orell and Kathy were security guards at dances at the Browns Valley Coliseum. He was also a member of the SD National Guard.  Orell was later employed at Power Sentry, and he began working at Woodland Cabinetry in Sisseton when it opened in December 1994 until his retirement in 2013.  Kathy passed away July 27, 2012.

Orell enjoyed woodworking, going to auction sales, and collecting guns and knives.  He also loved the B.K. Whopper.  One of his favorite activities was taking nature rides on the Gator with Kathy and the grandkids.

Survivors include his children, Gary (Michelle) Yost of Wheaton, Connie (Milo) Wellnitz of Sisseton, and Christy Yost Fletcher of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Parker (Olivia) Yost, Shayna (Ben Findlay) Yost, Howard (Stephanie) Herberg, Casey (Bethany) Herberg, Danielle Herberg, Victor Herberg, and Vincent Herberg; eight great-grandchildren, Weston Yost, Carly, Karina, Brantley, Harper, Lillian, Patricia, and Haisley Herberg; a sister, DiAnn (Eddie) Madsen of Rosholt; and in-laws, Gloria Serocki, Sylvia Serocki, Franny and Lawrence Renelt, Pat and Leon Westbrock, Paul and Kathy Serocki, Mary "Toots" Beyl, and Patsy Serocki.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; parents, Otto and Caroline; brother, Gary Yost; sister, Gladys Kuschel; and in-laws, Jerry "Spud" Serocki, Joe Serocki, and Bob Serocki.
