Nicarnia "Nick" Alan Loberg, 63, New Effington, SD, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2017, in his home after a 4-year battle with prostate cancer.
Memorial services will be Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington with Rev. Suzanne Benidt officiating. Music will be provided by organist Debra Bredvik and vocalists Janeen Kohl and Melanie Yost.
Burial will be in the Walla Lutheran Cemetery, rural New Effington. Honorary urn bearers will be Nick's grandchildren, Bennel and Braelynn Loberg, Sloan and Mesa Tackett and Axel Medenwald.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Walla Lutheran Church, rural New Effington, and will continue Saturday one hour prior to the service at Faith Lutheran.
Nick was born October 22, 1953, to Bennel and Ardamae (Wegener) Loberg at Sisseton, SD. He was baptized and confirmed at Walla Lutheran Church, rural New Effington. Nick began his schooling at Lien School #3 then moved to New Effington graduating from New Effington High School in 1971. He began college at South Dakota State University and decided to start farming on the family farm full time in 1973.
On July 10, 1982, Nick married Linda Pederson at Calvary Lutheran Church, Willmar, MN. To this union three children were born: Jacob, Kristina, and Melissa. Always a steward to the land and his animals, Nick continued farming until his death. His biggest accomplishment was his children and he adored his grandchildren. Nick loved babies and every baby adored him.
Nick leaves to mourn his wife of 34 years, Linda; along with three children and spouses, Jacob (Krystle) Loberg of New Effington, Kristina (Seth) Tackett of Summit, SD, and Melissa (Tyler) Medenwald of Peever, SD; five grandchildren, Bennel and Braelynn Loberg, Sloan and Mesa Tackett and Axel Medenwald; mother, Ardamae Loberg of Sisseton, SD; two sisters, Belinda (Paul) Engelhart of Watertown, SD, and Cindy (Ron) Evenson of Claire City, SD; mother-in-law, Ann Pederson of Willmar, MN; two sisters-in-law, Lori (Perry) Nistler of St. Stephen, MN, and Lisa (Randy) Pfeifer of Stacy, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nick is preceded in death by his father, Bennel Loberg; and his father-in-law, Daniel Pederson.
