Mildred "Millie" Rowland, 88, Browns Valley, MN, died February 9, 2011, at the Browns Valley Health Center, Browns Valley, MN.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 12, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley with Rev. Anna Williamson officiating. Music was provided by vocalists Sue Sykora and Stacey Borgheiinck.
Burial will be at a later date in the Valley View Cemetery. Pallbearers were Roland Jurgens Jr., Roland Jurgens III, Justin Hegna, Jason Hegna, Waldo Johnson, Bob Burt and Justin Rowland.
Visitation was Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the church.
Mildred Jane Lemay was born September 3, 1922, in rural Wilmot, SD, to Clarence "Bill" and Edith (Peterson) Ward. She attended rural school and graduated from Browns Valley High School in 1940. After graduation, Millie helped on the family farm.
On April 8, 1943, Millie married Dan Rowland in Beardsley, MN. They farmed their entire married lives in Becker Township, Roberts County, SD. Dan passed away June 21, 1988. In 2005, Millie moved to the Valley Vista Apartments in Browns Valley and in September of 2010 made her home in the Browns Valley Health Center.
Millie was a member of the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley. She also belonged to the ladies aide, taught Sunday school and served as the memorial secretary. Millie enjoyed gardening, flowers and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include four children, Sharon (Roland) Jurgens Jr., of Fridley, MN, Carol (Waldo) Johnson of Clinton, MN, Pat (Bob) Burt of St. Cloud, MN, and Alan (Wendy) Rowland of Browns Valley, MN; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a twin brother, Mickey (Teresa) Ward of Watertown, SD.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dan; sister, Shirley Miller; and brother, Eldon Ward.
