Michael Thomas Hogan was born March 7, 1947, in San Francisco, CA, to Thomas and Genevieve (Peterson) Hogan. During his young childhood, Mick moved with his mother to Fargo, ND. During those years he spent many happy hours in "paradise" with his aunt Juel and Uncle Spike at their home in rural Rosholt and he eventually moved to Rosholt to live with them at the farm. Mick attended school in Rosholt, graduating in 1965. He then attended undergraduate school at NDSU in Fargo, followed by the University of South Dakota Law School in Vermillion, SD. After receiving his law degree from USD, he clerked for the South Dakota Supreme Court. He joined the Aberdeen law firm of Maloney, Kolker, Fritz, Johnson, and Hogan in 1974. He was the Edmunds County States Attorney from 1975 to 1997.
On October 12, 1990, Mick married Sheree Nordling. They lived at Mina Lake and worked in Aberdeen. Mick practiced law and Sheree worked as a registered nurse.
In August of 1999, Mick and Sheree moved from Aberdeen to live on the farm where he grew up and loved - his family homestead. He told Sheree he was moving her to "paradise" and paradise it was. Mick moved his law practice full time to Main Street Rosholt where he practiced until his death. Mick enjoyed life in paradise - he always said that the farm is exactly where he wanted to be and was so blessed to be able to live there. Mick loved going to work every day and see his coworkers in the office and all those who stopped in to ask for advice or just to visit.
Mick and Sheree attended Bethania/Trondhjem Lutheran Church in Rosholt and rural Rosholt.
Mick was a member of the South Dakota Bar Association. South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association. American Bar Association, and past president and former board member of East River Legal Services.
Mick loved to hunt, fish, and spend time outdoors working around the farm. He had great times elk hunting in Colorado, moose hunting in Canada, fishing in the Boundary Waters, salmon fishing at Alcoma, and most of all hunting around home. He was active in Ducks Unlimited and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Mick is survived by his wife, Sheree of Rosholt; cousin, Rick (Linda) Hinton of Fargo, ND; mother-in-law, Corrine Nordling of Aberdeen; sisters-in-law, Deb Palmer of Pierre, SD, and Dorene Buchanan of Mina, SD; brothers-in-law, Ron Nordling of Aberdeen, and Rich (Joanne) Nordling of Gloversville, NY; three nieces, four nephews, five great nieces, two great nephews, and many dear friends.
Mick was preceded in death by his mother, Gen Rotzien; father, Thomas Hogan; great aunt, Juel, and great uncle, Forrest (Spike) Gilbert; cousin, Ron Hinton; and brothers-in-law, Jim Palmer and Spencer Buchanan.
