Maurice Kutter

Maurice Kutter, 90, Lidgerwood, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025, at his home.

Funeral Services will be Friday, December 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City, SD, with Rev. Jonathan Varns officiating. Music will be provided by Edwin Arndt, Jr.  The service will be recorded and appear on the bottom of this page after the funeral.

Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Claire City.  Honorary pallbearers will be Michelle Kutter and Wyatt Kutter.  Active pallbearers will be grandchildren Dana Kutter, Bryan Kutter, Dylan Kutter, Ryan Petersen, Brent Tabor, Justin Tabor, Kody Tabor, Brittany Knaust, Cameron Knaust, Austin Aker, Alex Aker, and Karli Aker.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt and will continue Friday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church.

Maurice Dean Kutter was born May 2, 1935, to Raymond and Myrtle (Strege) Kutter in Duerr Township, Richland County, ND.  He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Claire City.  He attended country school and graduated from New Effington High School in 1953.  After finishing school, he farmed with his dad.

On September 8, 1956, Maurice was united in marriage to Lucille Clark at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lidgerwood.  They raised their family on a grain and dairy farm south of Lidgerwood.

Maurice was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and served as Sunday school superintendent.  He also was a past member of the Lidgerwood School Board.

A lover of classic cars, Maurice was active in the Valley Vintage Car Club and enjoyed traveling around to area car shows.  He belonged to a tractor club, was an avid collector of Allis Chalmers farm equipment, and was known for hosting a fall threshing bee at their farm with their son Jim.  Maurice also restored many cars, farm equipment, and tools in his lifetime.

Maurice enjoyed bowling and played on an independent basketball league in New Effington for many years. He was the last surviving member.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Kutter; children, Jim (Jody) Kutter, Lori (Kelly) Tabor, Darla (Steve Koenig) Knaust and JaNyne (Kevin) Aker; daughter-in-law, Kathy Kutter; grandchildren, Dana Kutter, Bryan (Amanda) Kutter, Dylan (Katlynn) Kutter, Ryan (Whitney) Petersen, Brent (Angela) Tabor, Justin (Ashley) Tabor, Kody (Brianna) Tabor, Brittany Knaust, Cameron Knaust, Austin Aker, Alex (Cassie) Aker, and Karli Aker; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Alayna Tabor, Caelum Tabor, Brycen, Riley and Brinna Berg, Kroix, Kellan and June Kutter, Avery and Madison Kutter, and Decker and Navy Petersen; and cousins, Ryn (Bruce) Pitts, Karen Moen and Dale Kutter.

Maurice was preceded in death by his son, Keith Kutter; granddaughter, Michelle Kutter; great-granddaughter, Wyatt Kutter; parents, Raymond and Myrtle Kutter; many aunts and uncles; and cousin, Lane Moen.
