Marshall A. Leen, 62, Estelline, SD, formerly of New Effington, SD, died Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington with Rev. Tryphine Olson Schruba officiating. Music was provided by organist Greta Leen and vocalists Greta Leen and Kara Hansen.
Burial will be at a later date in the Garden of Rest Cemetery, New Effington. Honorary pallbearers were the Struck and Leen families. Active pallbearers were Joel Foster, Adam Foster, Donald Leen, Kevin Leen, Corey Leen, Bryan Mussetter, and Wayne Lackey.
Marshall Alan Leen was born July 14, 1950, in Veblen, SD, to Curtis and Helen (Steen) Leen. He was baptized and confirmed at Brandvold Lutheran Church, rural Victor, SD. Marsh attended school in New Effington, graduating from New Effington High School in 1968. He then attended Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD, for two years.
After finishing school, Marsh was employed as an insurance adjuster in San Francisco and Crescent Mills, CA. He later returned to New Effington and did carpentry work with his father. He was involved as the chief carpenter of the New Effington Museum project and enjoyed volunteering his talents at the museum. In 1994, Marsh moved to Estelline where he continued to do carpentry work.
Marsh enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, sports and reading. He was a very talented artist and especially loved drawing.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Jane (Bob) Foster of Estelline; and two nephews, Joel and Adam Foster.
Marsh was preceded in death by his parents; Curtis and Helen Leen.
