Marlys M. Voss, 80, Rosholt, SD, passed away Friday, March 18, 2016, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, March 22, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt with Father Jerome Ranek officiating. Music will be provided by organist Lana Sand and vocalist Sadie Voss.
Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Rosholt. Pallbearers will be Curtis Voss, Brian Voss, Ryan Voss, Eric Anderson, Derek Davis and Casey Loosmore.
Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marlys Mariema became part of the Valens "Wally" and Mary (Hunder) Jastram family on August 17, 1935, in Rosholt, SD. She attended school in Rosholt, graduating from Rosholt High School in 1953. After finishing school, Marlys moved to Minneapolis and worked at Midland Insurance.
On January 8, 1955, Marlys married Dale Voss at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt. Marlys enjoyed being a homemaker and raising six children. After the youngest started school in 1967, she began working at the Rosholt School. She started as a teacher's aide and librarian and eventually became the business manager. Marlys retired in 2001, but continued to help out in both the office and classroom. Marlys especially enjoyed working with the children at the White Rock Colony School. She also liked riding along with Dale on the bus to watch and judge at oral interpretation meets. Marlys was very honored to be named the 2013 RHS Alumna of the Year for her contributions to both the school and the community.
Marlys was a member of the Northeast Ambulance for over 25 years, the Rosholt American Legion Auxiliary and St. John's Catholic Church where she served on the Altar Society and assisted in the office.
Marlys enjoyed quilting, doing embroidery, reading, gardening and flowers. She also liked playing marbles, cards and board games. Marlys, along with Dale, especially loved spending time with their children, grandchildren and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Dale of Rosholt; children, Gail Voss of St. Paul, MN, Greg Voss of Rosholt, Glenn (Mary Ann) Voss of Sioux Falls, Mark (Holly) Voss of Breckenridge, MN, Laurie Sanders of Fergus Falls, MN, and Lisa (Ron) Kaenel of Willmar, MN; nine grandchildren, Sadie, Curtis, Brian, April (Eric), Ryan, Joe, Megan, Mary (Derek), and Lexie; one great-grandson, Landon; sisters-in-law, Arlene (Glendon) Ellingson of Bloomington, MN, Karen (LeRoy) Edlund of Cyrus, MN, and Delores Bjerketvedt of Detroit Lakes, MN; a number of nieces and nephews; and special neighbors, Casey, Jen, Isaac, Mya, and Laiken.
Marlys was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Marvin and LeRoy Jastram.
