Marlys Brooks

Marlys D. Brooks, age 80, Sisseton, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023, in West Mesa, Arizona.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Family Life Assembly of God Church in Sisseton.

Marlys Darlene Roth was born March 20th, 1943, to Kenneth and Florence (Blair) Roth in Sisseton. She grew up on the family farm in rural Sisseton. She attended Long Hollow Township country school. Marlys graduated with the Class of '61 from Sisseton High School. She attended Northern State in Aberdeen, SD.

On July 27th, 1963, Marlys married Cleon Brooks at the Assembly of God Church in Sisseton. Together, they raised five children: Kevin, Paula, Mark, Chad, and Dino.

Marlys was an active member of Family Life Assembly of God in Sisseton. She was a fierce prayer warrior. She continually prayed for family, friends, and anyone she heard of, who was in need of prayer. She was also very active in the Christian Women's Ministry.

Marlys enjoyed photography, cooking/baking, crafting, sewing, playing piano, and hosting family and friends for all occasions at her home.  She made everyone feel welcome and right at home, even if she had just met you. She had a beautiful smile, and wonderful sense of humor. She loved to laugh and goof around to get others to smile and laugh along with her.

Family was very important to Marlys. She thoroughly enjoyed having all the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren out to the house supplying them with outdoor activities, having them help cook and bake, and giving them treats. She loved taking them for rides in her convertible. She enjoyed doing crafts with, and for the children. Every year for Christmas, she would find some fun way to incorporate crafting into her gifts for all the children. Marlys attended many school concerts, plays, Christmas concerts, and school sporting events over the years.

Marlys is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Cleon. Her children, Kevin & Penny Brooks of Sisseton, SD, Paula & Jeff Martenson of Battle Lake, MN, Mark & Teresa Brooks of Sisseton, SD, Chad & Stephanie Brooks of Lead, SD, and Dino & Nichole Brooks of Pierre, SD; Grandchildren, Courtney & Damian Bostrom, Chelsea & Ty Werdel, Carrie Brooks & Ryan Villani, Wyatt & Carley Martenson, Dalton & Nicole Martenson, Emily Brooks, Jake Brooks, Timothy Brooks, Kaylie Brooks, Steven & Kendyl Brooks, Corbin Brooks, Nathan Brooks, Alexis & Francisco Escobar, Tyler MaComb, Trenton, Titus, Bernard and Aubriella; Great Grandchildren Isabel Bostrom, Briella Bostrom, Josiah Bostrom, Raylan Werdel, Myles Martenson, Everley Martenson, Avery Brooks, Emalynn Brooks, Ryleigh Brooks, Violet Brooks and Gracelynn Escobar; Sisters, Barbara Korshin and Peggy Cigelske; Brother Ron & Helen Roth; and many extended family members.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Florence Roth.
