Marilyn Jean (Johnson) Gjevre was born to Henry and Olga Johnson on November 14, 1932, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She also welcomed brother Roy in 1935, and they lived in south Minneapolis until 1946 when they moved to the farm in Rosholt where she treasured family time with aunts, uncles and cousins. She attended country school in rural Rosholt and later attended and graduated from the West Central School of Agriculture in Morris, MN. She attended Moorhead State University and then taught first grade in Starbuck, MN, and later Sisseton, SD.
April 2, 1955, Marilyn married Paul Gjevre at St. Joseph Lutheran Church, Rosholt. They moved to the Mesabi Iron Range at Biwabik, Minnesota, where they raised two boys and four daughters. Marilyn and Paul enjoyed training and showing dogs, and Marilyn operated her own dog grooming business out of the home. Marilyn enjoyed sharing her love of pets with her kids.
Marilyn and Paul returned to the farm in Rosholt in 1991, where they raised strawberries and operated a strawberry farm until her husband Paul passed in 2000. Marilyn moved to West St. Paul, MN, in 2002 spending time at daughter Monica's house. Marilyn enjoyed many interests including her genealogy, and staying connected to her family was most important.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; parents, Henry and Olga Johnson; brother, Roy; father and mother-in-law, Rev. AHG and Josephine Gjevre; and brothers-in-law, Alden and Phillip.
