Marietta Heck

Marietta C. Heck, 82, Browns Valley, MN, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD.
Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, March 14, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Father David Breu officiating. Music will be provided by organist Maria Waytashek and the St. Anthony's Choir.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Browns Valley. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Darin Ziemer, Dan Ziemer, Brett Ziemer, Chris Metz, Tyler Metz, and Nick Metz.
Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
The Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD, is in charge of the arrangements.
Marietta Charlotte was born March 26, 1933 in Traverse County, Minnesota to Peter and Johanna (Vergeldt) Piechowski. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley. She attended Country School, District 3, and graduated from Browns Valley High School in 1951.
On November 7, 1956, Marietta married John J. Heck, Jr. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. In addition to helping John on the farm and raising four children, Marietta worked at Ike's Chicken Shack for over 30 years. At home she was always busy in the kitchen making caramel rolls and homemade bread or relaxing with a good book and seek and find word books. She also enjoyed embroidering dish towels, sewing and mending.
Marietta was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church where she was very active, serving with the Christian Mothers, St. Anthony Guild, Communion Minister, CCD teacher and Sacristan.
Family was very important to Marietta. She always had time for her children regardless of how busy she was at the time. She was also especially close to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Joan Miller, Michael (Karen) Heck, Jean (Brad) Ziemer, and Julie (David) Metz, all of Browns Valley; grandchildren, Elissa (Donnie) Hoberg of Hancock, MN, Darin (Kim) Ziemer of Fargo, ND, Dan (Karna) Ziemer of Sisseton, SD, Kari (Cody) Jaskulka of Grenville, SD, Brett Ziemer of Browns Valley, Christopher (Amber Schaan) Metz of Fargo, Tyler (Andrea Burman) Metz of Browns Valley, Nicholas (Savannah Fritz) Metz of Fargo, and Mickinzie Metz of Fargo; great-grandchildren, Mariah and Austin Hoberg, Adam and Caden Ziemer, and Aubrey and Alex Ziemer; step grandchildren, Tony (Lacey) Miller of Browns Valley, and Dane Miller of Dallas, TX; step great-grandchildren, Dasani and Daxtin Miller; her siblings Donald (Gwen) Piechowski of Browns Valley, Peter Piechowski of Felton, MN, Lois (Norman) Wirtz of Hankinson, ND; and Gene (Beverly) Piechowski of Avon, MN; brothers-in-law, Richard and Edward Heck of Browns Valley and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Marietta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Heck Jr; infant son, Gregory; son-in-law, Patrick Miller; and grandchildren, Matthew and Katrina Miller; brothers-in-law Joe (Dorothy) Heck, Bart (Nell) Heck,and Tom Heck; and sisters-in-law, Bev Heck and Theresa (Sandy) DiBrito.
