Marguerite E. Plant, 89, Browns Valley, MN, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014, at the Browns Valley Health Center.
Mass of Christian Burial was Friday, February 28, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley with Father David Breu officiating. Music was provided by organist Norma Jung and vocalist Jim Jung.
Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Browns Valley. Honorary pallbearers were the staff and residents of the Browns Valley Health Center. Active pallbearers were Marguerite's grandsons, Danny Plant, David Plant, Donald Plant, John Schwagel, Dale Schwagel, and Lee Schwagel.
Visitation was Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Visitation continued Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marguerite Elaine was born July 11, 1924, to Malcolm and Catherine (Moore) Randall in Browns Valley, MN. She graduated from Browns Valley High School.
On September 30, 1943, Marguerite married Burton Plant at the St. Anthony's Parsonage in Browns Valley. Two children were born to them, Keith and Kathleen. They lived in Roberts County on the family farm where she helped with the field work. Her job was mainly cultivating corn. Marguerite worked at Dodge's Resort for 13 years and helped out at Rober's Resort and Heun's Resort.
Marguerite was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church where she was active in Christian Mothers and Guild Society. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella holding offices of Vice Regent and Regent. She was president of Band Mothers, treasurer for the local TOPS Club, president of the Browns Valley Alumni Association and served on the Bryant Township election board for several years. Marguerite was a member of the Bryant Township Ladies Auxiliary holding all offices through the years. For many years, she wrote the Grant & Bryant News for the Valley News, the Sisseton Courier and the Rosholt Review.
Marguerite always had a large garden and canned most of the vegetables. She also baked and decorated wedding cakes and birthday cakes.
Survivors include a son, Keith (Pat) Plant of rural Rosholt; a daughter, Kathleen Gibson of Beardsley, MN; nine grandchildren, Danny (Debbie) Plant of Hollywood, FL, David (Jessica) Plant of Marengo, IL, Donald Plant of Hainesville, IL, Joy (Jeff) Mattson of Fergus Falls, MN, John (Hillary) Schwagel of Corona, SD, Dale (Robin) Schwagel of Dumont, MN, Jackie (David) Nelson of Browns Valley, Lee (Theresa) Schwagel of Corona, and Susan Schwagel of Beardsley; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ardeth Simon of Sisseton, SD, Lucille Clark of Shreveport, LA, and Joyce Randall of Browns Valley; numerous nieces and nephews; and "adopted" granddaughters, Sonja Klemm and Kelsie Roscoe.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Burton; a great-grandson, Devon Schwagel; a brother, Richard Randall; and two brothers-in-law, Archie Simon and Eugene Clark.
