Margaret Johanna (Brockhaus) Braun was born February 14, 1930, to Ferdinand and Katherine (Wieser) Brockhaus in Humphrey, NE. She attended rural school in Rosholt and graduated from Morris High School. She went on to study Nursing at NDSSS in the first offered LPN Class, graduating in 1949.
Margaret's first employment brought her and her best friend, Marlys, to Browning, MT, to work on the Blackfoot Indian Reservation where she sometimes cared for up to 30 babies. After returning home, she worked for several area hospitals.
On August 18, 1956, Margaret married Delmar Braun at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt. Together they raised eight children on a farm northeast of Rosholt. After raising her children, she returned to nursing when the youngest started school. She lovingly cared for the residents at the Rosholt Nursing Home for many years and enjoyed making friends along the way.
Her sense of humor and quick wit brought laughter and joy to all those who knew her. Margaret was a wonderful role model; she was the Lord's right hand on earth and now in heaven.
In her free time, she taught Catechism, 4-H, and was an active member of Right to Life. She also spent many hours in the bleachers cheering on her children in high school sports and responding to their many mishaps. Planning and attending trips to Washington D.C., Orlando, FL, and Medora, ND, were some of her traveling highlights. Margaret had a green thumb. Her flower gardens and vegetable gardens were second to none.
Delmar and Margaret moved to town in 2001. They enjoyed many visits from family and friends throughout the years. The grandkids were especially helpful with the many tasks that came about.
Delmar passed away in 2010. Margaret lived alone until moving into Countryside Inn where she received the care she gave others for so many years.
Survivors include her children, Julie (Sam) Baerlocher of Missoula, MT, Loran (Kristi) Braun, Chuck (Netti) Braun, Randy (Holly) Braun, and Dennis (Tami) Braun all of Rosholt, Denise Braun of Coram, MT, and Janelle (Bob) Rossow of Herreid, SD; 14 grandchildren, Rae Ann, Reid, Ryne, and Rhett Baerlocher, Quentin Braun, Landon (Katie) Braun, Taylor Braun, Wyatt Braun, Hanna (Logan Martin) Braun, Garret Braun, Rebecca (Johnny) Wynia, and Rylee, Jada, and Jordyn Rossow; great-grandson, Holden; sister, Annamae (Donald) Braun of Rosholt; brother, Elmer (Barb) Brockhaus of Mankato, MN; and sisters-in-law, Gladys Braun and Marietta Bullis.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delmar; son, Mark; granddaughters, Hailey and Jenna Braun, Bethany and Courtney Braun; sisters, Dorothy Brockhaus, Dolores Keller, and Rose Mary Brockhaus; and brother, Art Brockhaus.
