Marco Smaldone, Jr., 81, Hermosa Beach, CA, passed away Monday, November 3, 2025, in California.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt with Father Ken Lulf officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Burial will be in the St. Nicholas Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Pallbearers will be Steven Harles, Todd Whempner, Jared Hamling, Mike Whempner, Paul Hamling, and Jim Hohertz.
Marco Smaldone, Jr. was born August 6, 1944, to Marco J. Smaldone, Sr., and Angela Smaldone at St. Michael's Hospital in Newark, NJ. He attended Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ. He furthered his education receiving his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at Newark College of Engineering in Newark, and his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI.
Marco was employed in several areas of the engineering field including Bell Telephone Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ, Hughes Aircraft Company in Culver City, CA, National Semiconductor Corporation in Santa Clara, CA, and Hong Kong, GM Hughes Electronics in El Segundo, CA, and Raytheon Corporation in El Segundo, CA. He performed roles in electronics including Field Application, Product Marketing Director, and Aerospace Project and Program Manager.
On December 26, 1967, Marco married Margaret Hamling at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, MI. They resided in Hermosa Beach since July 1973 except for two years (1977-1979) living in Hong Kong. Margaret passed away August 15, 2025.
Marco loved traveling with his wife throughout Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. They enjoyed cooking and baking together as well. Other hobbies included tennis, skiing, and beach sports. Marco also could be found golfing and fishing with friends in the Sierra Mountains of California and surf fishing on the beach in front of their home.
Marco and Margaret were very loving, giving souls and will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his brother, Dennis (Anne) Smaldone; nieces, Coulborne "Colby" Dupont and Elizabeth Macario; nephew, Tom Smaldone; grand nieces, Lina Dupont, Isabella Macario, and Ava Macario. He is also survived by numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Margaret; and his parents, Marco J. Smaldone, Sr., and Angela Smaldone.
