Lynette A. (Koehler) Shaffer, 59, Sioux Falls, SD, died Monday, February 8, 2010, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were Saturday, February 13, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt, SD, with Pastor Suzanne Benidt officiating. Music was provided by Sheree Hogan and Keith Falken. Burial will be at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery, Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers were Lynette's grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces Brenda Lohrenz and Christina Koehler, and nephews Lee and Benjamin Koehler currently serving in Iraq. Active pallbearers were Donald Kirk Shaffer, Jr., Mathew Waldal, Mark Waldal, Stacy Mayou, Scott Mayou, Greg Lohrenz, Bob Koehler, and Jack Simler. Visitation was Friday, February 12, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Lynette Ann was born December 6, 1950, in Breckenridge, MN, to parents Lea Vern and Hazel (Rich) Koehler. Lynette, also known to friends and family as Lyn, was raised in Rosholt. She was baptized and received first communion and confirmation at Trondhjem Lutheran Church near Rosholt. Lyn attended school in Rosholt graduating from Rosholt High School in 1969. On February 14, 1969, she gave birth to her daughter Lori. Lyn graduated from Moorhead State University in 1971 with a degree in X-Ray Laboratory Technician. After finishing school, she worked at various locations in the Tri-State area. On November 11, 1995, Lyn married Donald C. Shaffer in Brandon Valley, SD. She retired in 2008. Lyn was very passionate about life and her family. Every time a new member joined her family she was overjoyed. She always took one week of every year to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Donald and Lyn often took camping and fishing trips together. In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening, spending time with her cats, reading John Sanford novels, and antique shopping. She also loved having many great adventures with her friends. After a courageous battle with cancer, Lynette passed away peacefully at a Sioux Falls hospice with her loving husband and daughter by her side on February 8, 2010. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her loving husband, Donald Shaffer of Sioux Falls; daughter Lori (John) Waldal of Thief River Falls, MN; three stepchildren, Kristine Shaffer currently stationed in Germany, Sandra (Chuck) Frasier of Tyndall, SD, and Donald Kirk Shaffer, Jr., of Sioux Falls; two siblings, Sharon (Delbert) Mayou of Rosholt, and Wesley (Beth) Koehler of Rosholt; five grandchildren, Mathew (Tania) Waldal of Red Lake Falls, MN, Mark Waldal, Shawna Waldal, Brittany Waldal, and Wyatt Waldal all of Thief River Falls; four great-grandchildren, Cody Mead, Tucker Coombs, Madilyn Waldal, and Lexus Waldal; and several nieces and nephews. Lynette was preceded in death by her parents Lea Vern and Hazel Koehler, as well as several aunts and uncles.
