Lyle H. Wohlenhaus, 88, Wheaton, MN, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at Coteau des Prairies Hospital in Sisseton, SD.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton with Father John Paul Knopik and Father Stan Wieser officiating.  Music will be provided by organist Cindy Sanasack and special music by the Ave Maria Catholic Church Choir.

Burial will be at a later date in the Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton.  Military honors will be provided by the Merton Dale American Legion Post 80 of Wheaton.

Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Lyle Howard Wohlenhaus was born October 2, 1929, in Wheaton, MN, to Howard and Bernice (McLain) Wohlenhaus. He attended school in Wheaton, graduating from Wheaton High School in 1947.

Following graduation, Lyle enlisted in the US Army. He was stationed in Germany and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge from the Army, Lyle attended Morris Agricultural School in Morris, MN.

In 1954, Lyle married JoAnn Zabel at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Dumont, MN. They lived and farmed in Traverse County.  Lyle retired from farming in 1991, and he and JoAnn traveled to Arizona as their health would allow. In 2003, they moved off the farm into Wheaton.  In 2014, they made their home in the Countryside Inn Assisted Living in Rosholt, SD.

Lyle was a member of the Merton Dale American Legion Post 80 of Wheaton and served on the Farmers Service Administration Board.  He also served on the church council and as a trustee at Ave Maria Catholic Church.

Lyle enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He especially loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife JoAnn of Rosholt, SD; children, Doug (Linda) Wohlenhaus of Wheaton, Deb (Marty) Buttke of Milbank, SD, and Dean (Marilee) Wohlenhaus of Fergus Falls, MN; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Shirley Reckner of Wheaton.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Bernice; and a brother-in-law, Leroy Reckner.
