Ludmilla M. Deutsch, 93, Beardsley, MN, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010, in a Fargo, ND, hospital.
Mass of Christian burial was Friday, September 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley with Father David Breu officiating. Music was provided by organist Nita Holker and vocalist Steve Kraushaar.
Burial was in the St. Mary's Cemetery, Beardsley. Honorary pallbearers were all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers were her grandsons, Craig Deutsch, Tom Deutsch, Gary Deutsch, Curt Myrum, Mark Lee, T. J. Kraushaar, and Michael Cruser.
Visitation was Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the church. There was a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. led by Sister Rebecca Littel. Visitation continued Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Ludmilla Mary (Opitz) Deutsch was born into this world on October 30, 1916, in Roslyn, SD. She was the oldest daughter of Ludmilla (Oroslan) and George Opitz.
Ludmilla grew up on a farm in Roslyn. On October 17, 1939, she was united in marriage to Alois Deutsch of Eden, SD. In 1948, Ludmilla and Alois moved to Beardsley where they purchased the Korner Café and operated it until the fall of 1972. Ludmilla and Alois were blessed with ten children.
In her retirement, she enjoyed decorating cakes, gardening, baking, crocheting, and quilting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Ludmilla loved playing cards, going to bingo and visiting with her friends.
She was a long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. In 2005, she became a resident of the Browns Valley Nursing Home. Ludmilla was a very caring and giving person. She touched the lives of all those who had the privilege to meet her. She gave generously of her time, talents, and her love.
Ludmilla is survived by her two sons, Raymond (Alice) Deutsch of Choctaw, OK, and Larry (Nancy) Deutsch of Beardsley; four daughters, Mary (Gary) Lee of Milbank, SD, Donna (Mike) Myrum of Browns Valley, Virginia (Steve) Kraushaar of Fargo, ND, and Debbie (Brad) Cruser of Sauk Rapids, MN; and a daughter-in-law, Marlene Deutsch of Beardsley. Ludmilla was also blessed with 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Olivia (Gerald) Opitz and Alvina Opitz both of Eden, SD; one brother, Elwood (Audrey) Opitz of Luverne, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Ludmilla was preceded in death by her husband, Alois Deutsch, Sr.; and four sons, Jeremy, David, James, and Alois, Jr.; her parents; three brothers, Herbert, Frederick, and Leonard; and one sister, Leona.
