After several months of suffering with cancer, Loren "Chip" Sykora, age 79, Beardsley, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2025, at the Browns Valley Health Center.
Graveside Services will be Saturday, October 25, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery in Beardsley with Father John Paul Knopik officiating. Music will be provided by Sue Sykora and Stacey Borgheiinck. Urn bearer will be Terry Reed. Military honors will be provided by the William Krensing American Legion Post 58 of Browns Valley.
Loren John Sykora was born November 20, 1945, the sixth son to Henry and Theresa (Diekmann) Sykora in Graceville, MN. He attended school at District #35 and in Browns Valley. Chip was a member of the South Dakota Army National Guard. After finishing school, he began farming with his dad and brothers. He also drove beet truck and was a member of the fishing crew with Dave Reed and Jack Raw.
Chip was a man of few words, with gentle manners and a kind heart. He enjoyed listening to the radio, reading, and having coffee with his friends at the mini mart. Chip's pride and joy was his farmland. He spent many hours working and watching his crops grow and mature.
Survivors include his brothers, Francis Sykora and Dale Sykora of Beardsley, Robert "Bob" (Barb) Sykora of Excelsior, MN; sister, Karen Reed of Browns Valley; sister-in-law, Jan Sykora of St. Cloud, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Theresa; brothers, Eugene and Everett; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Kathleen; and brother-in-law, David Reed.
