Lois Johnson

Lois Y. Johnson, 90, Fargo, ND, formerly of New Effington, SD, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, MN.

A private family service will be Saturday, June 13, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington.

Friends are welcome to attend the graveside service immediately following the funeral at the Garden of Rest Cemetery, New Effington.

Lois Yvonne was born February 22, 1930, to Ole and Alice (Anderson) Hammer in Aberdeen, SD.  She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Aberdeen and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD.  Lois attended school in New Effington, graduating from New Effington High School in 1948.  After earning her teaching degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, Lois taught school in Hammer,SD, for two years.

On August 26, 1951, Lois married Glen Johnson at Nidaros Lutheran Church in Hammer.  After their marriage, they lived in New Effington.

Lois was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she served as an organist, in the Faith Choir and Ladies Aid.  She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary.

Lois was very active in the New Effington community, volunteering over the years at school, church and the legion.  In later years she was very involved in the Community Center, New Effington School Reunions, and city Anniversary celebrations, especially the 50 ^th and 75 ^th city anniversaries.  She volunteered extensively at the New Effington Museum, especially their Christmas event.  She and Glen had their Friday night pizza group and rarely missed coffee at Mikey's.  Her great joy was attending the grandchildren's activities and was so excited by her great-grandchildren.  Lois and Glen made their home in Fargo in 2013.

Survivors include her husband, Glen Johnson of Moorhead; children, Vicki (Neil) Bosch of Fargo and Scott (Suzanne) Johnson of Fargo; grandchildren, Kyle (Crystal) Bosch, Tyler (Kirsten) Bosch, Samantha Johnson, and Shantel Johnson; and great-grandkids, Jack Bosch, Evelyn Bosch, William Bosch, Claire Bosch, and Decker Bosch.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Alice Hammer.
