Lloyd A. Pearson, 82, Rosholt, SD, died Monday, January 3, 2011, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 8, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Lutheran Church, rural Rosholt, with Rev. Suzanne Benidt officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand and vocalists Gary and Pam Anderson. Lunch was served at noon at the Rosholt Community Center for those who wished to join the family.
Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Military honors were provided by Leo American Legion Post 48 of Rosholt and Read-Veflin American Legion Post 180 of New Effington. Pallbearers were Lee Rogness, Danny Akerson, Paul Pearson, David Pearson, Larry Pearson, Cecil Stangeland, Andy Westby and Ted Horning.
Visitation was Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Visitation continued Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lloyd Arnold Pearson was born February 29, 1928, in White Rock Township, Roberts County, SD, to Charlie and Alice (Rydell) Pearson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Lutheran Church, rural Rosholt. He graduated from Morris Ag School in 1945.
On November 26, 1949, Lloyd was united in marriage to Betty A. Ostby at Brandvold Lutheran Church, rural Victor, SD. Together they raised two children, Mark and Sheila. After their marriage, Lloyd and Betty lived and farmed in the Rosholt area. Lloyd served in the U.S. Army from July 20, 1954, to April 19, 1956, earning the National Defense Service Medal.
Lloyd was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Lutheran Church and served in many positions and offices. For many years, he was the official snow remover of the church. He was very active in the formation and success of the Rosholt Threshing Bee. Lloyd and Betty were recognized for their work in the Threshing Bee and were chosen as parade marshals. Lloyd also served on the White Rock Township Board and as a director for the Roberts County Farm Mutual Insurance Company and the Rosholt Coop Elevator.
Lloyd was a lifelong farmer and took pride in working the land. Lloyd took great pride in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild. He was a practical joker, loved woodworking and tinkering in his shop. He was a friend to many people.
Lloyd is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty; his son, Mark (Mary) Pearson of Rosholt; his daughter, Sheila (Dave) Pohl of Wheaton, MN; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Cody) Malloy and great-granddaughter Taylor, Jason Pearson, Melanie Pohl and special friend Nick DeSplinter, Brittany Pearson, and Grant Pearson; a sister, Hazle Akerson of Rosholt; four sisters-in-law, Ada Pearson of Rosholt, Carmen Ostby of Wheaton, MN, Faye (Louie) Akerson of Rosholt, and Bonnie (Darrel) Ekstrom of Two Harbors, MN; many nieces and nephews; and his dog Peanut.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; Betty's parents, Pete and Fanny Ostby; sister, Violet (Ray) Tessmer; brothers, Ernest Pearson, and Gordon (Elaine) Pearson; brothers-in-law, Robert Akerson and Dean Ostby; and sister-in-law, Beulah (Willard) Braaten.
