Leonard J. Piechowski, 83, Benson, MN, formerly of Browns Valley, MN, died Thursday, April 2, 2015, at a St. Cloud Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Browns Valley with Father David Breu officiating. Music will be provided by Deb Farwell and the St. Anthony Choir.

Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Browns Valley. Military honors will be provided by the William Krensing American Legion Post 58 of Browns Valley. Pallbearers will be Richard Piechowski, Dennis Lubbers, Paul Serocki, Stan Piechowski, Neil Piechowski, Eugene Whempner and Vernon Whempner.

Visitation will be Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Leonard John Piechowski was born March 8, 1932, in rural Browns Valley, to Frank and Sophie (Giebel) Piechowski. He attended rural grade school at District #2 and the Morris Agricultural School. On October 7, 1952, he was drafted into the U.S. Army into an atomic bomb testing unit. After being honorably discharged October 7, 1954, Leonard worked road construction in Fargo. Because of an eyesight disability, he had to discontinue working. He attended the School for the Blind in Chicago. He then lived in Glenwood and in Benson, MN.

Leonard enjoyed listening to ballgames on the TV and radio. He also attended Mass every day.

Survivors include three sisters, Beatrice Lewandowski of West Fargo, ND, Helen Whempner of Wilmot, SD, and Patricia (Sylvester) Fischer of Graceville, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Francis Piechowski; and sister, Margaret Piechowski.
