Leonard R. Osborn, 98, rural Fairmount, ND, died Monday, November 1, 2010, at the Countryside Inn Assisted Living in Rosholt, SD.
Funeral services were Friday, November 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fairmount United Methodist Church in Fairmount, ND, with Rev. Fern Bailey officiating. Music was provided by pianist Kay Nelson and soloist Don Moffet.
Burial was in the Fairmount Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons,  Steve Osborn, Mark Osborn, Brandon Kleinwort, great-grandson, Dylan Sather, and Doug Olson and Dave Stelton. Honorary pallbearers were all of Leonard's friends.
Visitation was Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, SD. Visitation continued Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Leonard Raymond Osborn was born January 28, 1912, in Peterson, IA, to George and Charlotte (Funk) Osborn. The family moved to LaMars Township, ND, in 1917 where Leonard attended rural school at LaMars #1. He worked on the family farm until he began farming on his own.
On September 24, 1939, Leonard married Clara Stelton at the United Methodist Church in Rosholt. They continued to live and farm in LaMars Township. After retiring in 1976, Leonard and Clara moved into Fairmount for a brief time. Later they returned to LaMars Township to live in the remodeled school house LaMars #1. Leonard continued to live there until recently.
Leonard enjoyed farming and spent many hours of his retirement on his lawn tractor mowing the grass in his large yard and for Bethany Methodist Church next door. Leonard and Clara enjoyed spending time at their lake home at Ashby, MN, on Pelican Lake and also enjoyed traveling to many places including Alaska, Hawaii, Albuquerque, NM, and Disney World. Clara died in November of 1995.
Leonard's hobbies included deer hunting and throwing horseshoes. He also loved to fish ~ locally, on the Missouri River and in Canada. He remembered fishing 93 of his 98 years.
Leonard was a long time member of the Bethany Methodist Church in LaMars Township. Leonard was proud to have attended the final church service at Bethany this past September.
Survivors include his son Larry (Jeanne) Osborn of Wahpeton, ND; daughter Connie (Bernie) Kleinwort of Fargo, ND; four grandchildren, Steve (Joy) Osborn, Mark Osborn, Brandon Kleinwort and Kristin Sather; two great-grandchildren, Dylan Sather and Britta Sather; two sisters, Fern Ward of Breckenridge, MN and Arlene Brovald of Mukilteo, WA; and one brother Wayne (Betty) Osborn of Wahpeton, ND.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife Clara; one sister Myrtle Kruschke; and four brothers Everett, Willard, Orval, and John Wesley Osborn.
