Leonard Leroy Holtz was born October 6, 1933, to Henry P. and Esther (Klindt) Holtz in Fox Lake, MN.  He was baptized and confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Windom, MN.  Leonard attended school in Windom, graduating from Windom High School in 1952.  On August 11, 1954, Leonard entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.  He was honorably discharged July 27, 1956.

On August 27, 1956, Leonard married Phyllis Hanson at the American Lutheran Church in Windom.  After their marriage, Leonard worked as a welder at Toro Manufacturing in Windom for forty years.  He retired in 1998 and moved to Rosholt in 1999.

Leonard was a member of the DNR, Bingham Lake City Council and the Bingham Lake Fire Department.  He also belonged to the Cottonwood County Fish and Game League.  When Jim was in Boy Scouts, Leonard did a lot of camping and helped with projects, especially the Eagle Scout projects of making picnic benches and cleaning up the beaches.

Leonard loved hunting ducks and fishing with friends and his boys.  He also supplied his dinner table with venison.  His boys got the same hunting and fishing fever from their dad.  Several years ago, he took fishing trips to a resort in Northern Minnesota.  He caught a couple of trophy walleyes, which he proudly displayed on the living room wall.

Leonard enjoyed going to stock car races, gardening, and helping his wife can vegetables.  He also liked playing Dominos and cards with neighbors and friends. Above all, Leonard loved spending time with his grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-granddaughters.  He thoroughly enjoyed watching them play in the lake.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Holtz of Rosholt; children, Jerome (Tammy) Holtz of Bingham Lake, MN, Eugene (Renee) Holtz of Tea, SD, Cindy (Devon) Baerg of Butterfield, MN, Brenda Holtz of Rosholt, and James (Patricia) Holtz of Bingham Lake; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-granddaughters; and a brother, Wayne (Mary Lee) Holtz of Marcell, MN.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marie Smith; infant brother, William; infant great-grandtwins, Tori and Tyler; and great-great-granddaughter, Lily.
