Lauretta C. Braun, 91, Rosholt, SD, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at the Northeast Care and Rehabilitation Center in Rosholt.
Funeral Mass was Saturday, September 19, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Rosholt with Father Jerome Ranek officiating. Music was provided by organist Lana Sand.
Burial was in the St. Nicholas Cemetery, rural Rosholt. Honorary pallbearers were the St. John's Rosary Makers and Lauretta's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great–grandchild. Active pallbearers were David Braun, Walter Braun, Larry Thomas, Lenny Thomas, Tim Cervenka, Jack Brandenburger, Andy Meger, Dan Foltz and Art Brandenburger.
Visitation was Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. There was a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Visitation continued Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Lauretta Catherine was born February 26, 1924, to Hellmuth Paul and Elizabeth Mary (Brockhaus) Thomas in White Rock Township, Roberts County, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, rural Rosholt. She attended school in White Rock Township through the eighth grade.
On October 6, 1943, Lauretta married Arnold Braun at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Arnie and Lauretta farmed northeast of Rosholt for forty years. Lauretta was the "Milk Lady" during her years on the farm. Arnie and Lauretta moved to Rosholt in 1983. In 2013, Lauretta made her home in the Rosholt Care Center.
Lauretta was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Altar Society, and the Rosary Makers.
Lauretta's hobbies included painting and making silk flower arrangements for weddings. She was nicknamed the "Donut Lady." No one went hungry while visiting at Lauretta's. Her sticky rolls were a great hit with the grandkids and everyone else.
Survivors include her husband, Arnold of Rosholt; children, Elizabeth "Betty" (Alfred) Feldick of Rosholt, Alfred (Pam) Braun of Hankinson, ND, Theresa (Dwight) Wickander of Lakeville, MN, Dennis Braun of Huron, SD, and Melvin (Polly) Braun of Dwight, ND; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Evelyn Gaulrapp of Altoona, WI; and a brother, Sylvester (Regina) Thomas of Rosholt.
Lauretta was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Josephine Hahn, Rosella Foltz, Eleanor Zach, and Alice Stueve; brothers, Arnold Thomas, Elmer Thomas and Emmanuel Thomas; and a great-grandson, Danny.
